Pigment dispersion for medical tattooing

The pigment is the ingredient (or raw material) that gives ink its colour. While it is an essential component, it is not sufficient on its own.
As pigments come in powder form, they cannot be easily placed in the skin. It is necessary to make a liquid colorant, which is easy to implant.
By definition, pigments are not soluble in the usual liquids (this property is the reason we use them, as otherwise they would dissolve in the skin), so they are placed in a "dispersion" (suspension) in a liquid called a "dispersant". Remember that colorants (for food) are soluble, so they are placed in a homogeneous "solution" with a "solvent".

BIOTIC Phocea, the know-how of a manufacturer

To create its single-use sterile inks, BIOTIC Phocea uses only high-purity raw materials composed of mineral and organic pigments. Chosen for their high tinting strength, they offer ideal chromatic stability and a dispersion adapted to the skin’s pH, without any added preservatives.
These powdered dyes, placed in a liquid mixture called a dispersant, go through the manufacturing stages: mashing, grinding, and dispersion. Multiple physical (colour, density, viscosity, flow time, etc.) and chemical (pH, etc.) tests are performed before the paste reaches the spectrophotometry stage.   Next, the pigments are placed in a light booth and the colour temperature is selected. Once these tests are completed, BIOTIC Phocea begins production and bottling. This involves automatic measurement of the filling volume and weighing inspection. The last stage is labelling and traceability management via the batch number before sterilization using gamma ionization (an approved industrial method) at a dose of 25kGy . This allows the product to be kept sterile for 5 years.
Thanks to this exacting process, Laboratoires BIOTIC Phocea has been ISO 9001 and EN 13485 certified for its quality of design and manufacturing.
Mostly of mineral origin, BIOTIC Phocea’s single-use pigments are designed using a plant-based dispersant and mineral and/or organic powders. The results obtained, made from a high-quality mixture, give the final product a high degree of purity and ensure biocompatibility with all skin types, a guarantee of exemplary safety for your patients.
