At BIOTIC Phocea, we have always developed our products according to demanding standards: providing high-performance professional solutions while prioritising formulas that are respectful of the skin and the environment.
For several years, we have been working to progressively reduce the use of certain synthetic ingredients whenever more responsible alternatives can maintain the same level of efficacy, sensoriality and safety.
Today, we are taking another important step by bringing all our cosmetic formulas into early compliance with European Regulation 2024/1328 amending Annex XVII to the REACH Regulation .
What does this new regulation provide for?
European Regulation 2024/1328 further regulates the use of certain cyclic silicones known as:
- Cyclopentasiloxane (D5)
- Cyclohexasiloxane (D6)
These ingredients have been used in the cosmetics industry for many years for their sensory properties: a silky feel, easy application and a non-greasy finish.
However, European authorities have determined that these substances may have a long-term environmental impact due to their high persistence in ecosystems. They have therefore decided to progressively restrict their use across many product categories.
What this means for our clients
In practical terms, this regulatory development has no impact on the safety of products currently in use.
It is important to remember that this regulatory decision is primarily driven by environmental considerations relating to what happens to these substances after use, rather than by an identified risk to users under normal cosmetic conditions of use.
For our clients, this transition simply means the introduction of formulas that are even more aligned with current market expectations:
